Lifeline Control Room Operator – Join Our Team in Merthyr Tydfil!
Location: Merthyr Tydfil
Salary: £13.26 per hour (PAYE) / £16.84 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: Temporary (18 weeks, maternity cover)
Hours: 18.5 hours per week (flexible shift pattern, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays)
Start Date: 29 September 2025

This temporary role offers a unique opportunity to support vulnerable residents through the Lifeline and Emergency Planning Control Room, ensuring their safety and peace of mind.

About the RoleAs a Lifeline Control Room Operator, you’ll be the first point of contact for service users, handling calls and alarms with care and precision. Your work will directly contribute to the safety and well-being of the Merthyr Tydfil community. Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing incoming calls via phone, PNC, and fax, responding according to the Control Room’s Code of Practice.
  • Programming and maintaining Lifeline & Telecare equipment.
  • Updating confidential records and monitoring alarm systems.
  • Providing guidance to service users, next of kin, and scheme managers.
  • Handling out-of-hours maintenance queries for MTCBC and partner associations.
  • Working independently on a rota basis, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:
  • Experience using telephone systems to engage with customers.
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and IT system experience.
  • Ability to work alone, follow a rotating shift pattern (including nights/weekends/bank holidays), and prioritise tasks.
  • Strong communication skills, with a calm and reassuring manner.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, honesty, and safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
  • Subject to a DBS check and must provide a CV, 2 years of references, Criminal Convictions Declaration, and Confidentiality Agreement.
Desirable:
  • Ability to speak Welsh (Level 2–5).
  • Knowledge of Housing Repairs Systems or Community Alarm Services.
