Job Description
Are you a skilled tradesperson with a passion for delivering high-quality maintenance services? Network Recruitment Wales is recruiting for a Maintenance Technician to join the Building Services team in The Vale of Glamorgan, for a 12-week temporary contract to cover long-term sickness. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a vital service, ensuring safe and effective repairs across council properties.
Role: Maintenance Technician
Location: Vale of Glamorgan
Contract Duration: 18/08/2025 – 10/11/2025
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday–Friday, flexible hours, including potential unsociable hours)
Rate: PAYE: £16.60 per hour | Umbrella: £21.17 per hour
Employment Type: Temporary
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver reactive, planned, and cyclical maintenance repairs to an acceptable industry standard, in line with relevant legislation.
- Assist Building Maintenance Officers to ensure timely completion of repairs to meet customer needs and satisfaction.
- Pre-inspect and diagnose repair requirements using a Schedule of Rates, identifying necessary resources, materials, and plant.
- Accurately record work undertaken, including Schedule of Rates codes, working time, materials, and plant used.
- Ensure safe use and storage of issued plant and equipment.
- Provide a multi-skilled service, undertaking tasks outside your recognised trade (additional training may be provided).
- Conduct daily safety checks on vehicles and plant, recording findings as required.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and developing colleagues, apprentices, and trainees.
- Comply with health and safety legislation, risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
- Adhere to the Council’s Financial Regulations, Equal Opportunities Policy, Environmental Policy, and safeguarding procedures.
- Report any safeguarding concerns promptly to the appropriate officer.
- Essential:
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Recognised trade background
- Experience in building maintenance or repairs, with the ability to deliver work to industry standards.
- Ability to pre-inspect, diagnose, and record maintenance tasks accurately using a Schedule of Rates.
- Flexible approach to duties and working hours, including potential unsociable hours.
- Strong commitment to health and safety, including compliance with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Ability to use technology and maintain associated systems for job functions.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to conduct daily vehicle safety checks.
- Desirable:
- Experience in multi-skilled maintenance tasks.
- Previous work within a local authority or similar environment.
