Job Description

Science Academic Coach

Want to grow your classroom skills in science before teacher training?

Use your subject knowledge to strengthen understanding and exam craft across KS3–KS4.

*** Science Academic Coach
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ secondary school, Edgbaston
*** Academic support across the KS3 & KS4 Science curriculum

What you’ll do:
Deliver targeted support in biology, chemistry and physics through 1:1 tuition and small-group boosters. You’ll revisit core concepts (cell biology, bonding and reactions, energy and forces), model practical write-ups and data handling, and sharpen exam technique with retrieval, spacing and worked examples. You’ll prepare lean resources, capture quick progress notes, and align next steps with class teachers.

Who you are:
A science or STEM graduate who explains ideas cleanly and spots misconceptions early. You’re organised, calm under pressure, and able to keep sessions brisk and purposeful while building confidence.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear, accurate verbal and written explanations.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Real drive to raise attainment and support wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (tutoring, mentoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Edgbaston secondary serves a diverse community and runs calm, well-ordered lessons backed by consistent behaviour routines. Science is well led, with sequenced schemes of learning, common assessments, and practical’s planned for clarity and safety. You’ll have access to banks of past-paper questions, model answers, and demo videos to streamline intervention. Protected intervention slots, fortnightly coaching with actionable targets, and ready-to-use revision materials mean you can make impact quickly while building a portfolio for ITT. Technicians are proactive and labs are well resourced, so you can focus on learning, not logistics.

How to Apply
Send your CV, noting your availability and DBS status (add two referees if possible). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school interview/observation. Apply early—the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
