An exciting opportunity has opened for an experienced and driven Primary SEND Team Manager to join a forward-thinking, inclusive SEND service in a central London local authority. You will lead the Primary phase casework team to drive high-quality outcomes for children and families across the borough.
About the Role
You will manage a dedicated team of SEND professionals responsible for the assessment, review, and planning processes for children aged 5–11 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This is a leadership role where strategic thinking meets practical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a team of case officers ensuring EHCPs are legally compliant, timely, and reflect children’s individual needs.
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the statutory assessment and review process in the primary phase.
Lead on complex casework, ensuring decisions are defensible, child-centred, and collaborative.
Build effective working relationships with schools, parents, health and care professionals.
Drive continuous improvement across workflows, ensuring high standards of practice and performance.
Support and develop your team through mentoring, supervision, and professional development.
Monitor casework quality, timelines, and contribute to service reporting and audits.
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience working in a SEND statutory team or managing SEND processes in education or local government.
Strong understanding of SEND legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
Excellent people management skills and experience leading high-performing teams.
Clear and confident decision-making under pressure.
A strong commitment to inclusion, equity, and person-centred practice.
Effective communication and stakeholder engagement, particularly with families and schools.
A relevant qualification or equivalent professional experience in education, social work, or public service.
What’s On Offer
Leadership development and access to management coaching.
A collaborative and supportive SEND service committed to innovation and inclusion.
Agile working options with a flexible, hybrid working model.
Competitive local authority benefits including pension scheme and generous annual leave.
A diverse and inclusive culture where your leadership makes a direct impact on children’s lives.
