Job Description

The Management Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting functions in addition to the communication and promotion of financial position, insight, governance and control within the business.

Take a lead on the closing of management accounts, as well as providing an assurance of numbers and insightful commentary for both Waste Shared Services and Bio Recycling. Look at the end-to-end processes of Bio Recycling and drive improvements together with the team members.

What you’ll be doing as a Management Accountant
  • Support the Finance Manager by taking a lead on the closing of Shared Services Management accounts as well as providing an assurance of numbers and insightful commentary
  • Support the recording, reconciliation and analysis of accounting activities and period end close activities in accordance with agreed close schedules and timetables.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, looking to automate and eliminate where possible.
  • Own the end-to-end process mapping of all Work Order streams within Operations
  • Provide Insight into results during period end close to the FP&A and Business Partner teams, relating to the key cost drivers.
  • Working across the wider finance team to document, align and improve processes, to drive efficiency and consistency.
  • Support compliance with accounting standards and Thames Water control frameworks, including communicating with internal stakeholders to ensure core system data is clean and accurate.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for analytics, through the agreed demand management framework to provide support to Business Partners for costs visibility, business case preparation and investigation into financial performance.
Base location- Hybrid – Clear Water Court Reading
Working pattern – 36 hours
Necessary requirements for the role – Must be able to be in the office Mondays and Tuesdays

What you should bring to the role
  • Accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, CPA, CMA, CHAE or equivalent)
  • Systems experience with SAP and HFM
  • To be able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of accounting principles, systems, and procedures
  • Experience in end to end process mapping
  • Knowledge and understanding of IFRS
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines and produce high quality work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to interact with leadership and other key stakeholders.
