Job Description

As a Construction Assurance Engineer at Thames Water, you will ensure the safe, timely, and budget-friendly delivery of Thames Water assets to the highest quality standards.

Your expertise will guide projects through design, construction, commissioning, and post-takeover phases, prioritising compliance and buildability. In this role, you will uphold regulatory obligations and maximise benefits for Thames Water, overseeing all construction activities from start to finish. Your commitment to safety, environmental, and quality standards is essential. Working within the Major Projects division, you'll tackle large-scale, complex schemes (generally over £30 million) that require robust technical and project management skills. Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll ensure projects meet our strategic needs while adhering to time, cost, and quality commitments.

Your role will be critical to our infrastructure's future, engaging with departments like Operations, Health & Safety, and Engineering. Based at East Hyde Sewage Treatment Works, your site presence is essential, and you will receive support, tools, and training to enhance your skills and advance your career.

What you’ll be doing as a Construction Assurance Engineer
  • Supporting critical design reviews, identifying risks and issues, and working with stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Focussed on the construction phase of projects: assessing and reporting project progress, acting to rectify issues, and taking the lead on the escalation process if necessary. Also, all non-conformances must be identified and corrected.
  • Monitor and review component factory and site acceptance tests, ensuring all commissioning activities defined in the plan are satisfactorily completed.
  • Managed identification and resolution of snags and, after taking over, liaised with operators and contractors to manage the defect process and performance testing.
  • Monitoring, agreeing, and approving Take Over tests.
Hybrid – Slough or Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment works
36 hours a week, Monday to Friday. This role will require you to be in the office and site-based 3 days a week. The successful candidate for this role must have a driver's licence and access to a car.

What you should bring to the role
  • Have an HNC or above in an appropriate engineering subject or background in a similar role.
  • Have a significant health and safety qualification: National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), or hold a Site Management Safety certificate or be willing to gain one.
  • Understand the design, construction, and operations development within Thames Water.
  • Be driven, resilient, and tenacious under pressure. Want to deliver projects on time, at a reasonable cost, and with quality.
  • Foster a positive health and safety culture within the team and contractors, ensuring all environmental and health and safety statutory obligations are met.
