About the Role
The Customisation and Development team is responsible for the on time, on cost, on quality delivery of helicopter retrofit projects to the UK MOD, National Police Services, Air Ambulance and VIP customers. The careful planning of project schedules and resources is essential to ensuring we meet the expectations of both the business and our customers. The Project Planner role is therefore essential to ensure we track project progress and cost against a robust set of integrated plans.
As the Project Planner for the Customisation and Development team you will be responsible for the creation and management of individual project plans as well as the integration of those plans into a master schedule aligned to the business’s priorities. The Project Planner will report to the PMO Manager and support the Customisation and Development Project Managers.
Main responsibilities
- Support the Customisation and Development departments to create and maintain resourced project plans, ensuring compliance to project control standards and procedures.
- Be proactive in the monitoring of progress against plans and develop recovery strategies as necessary, escalating to the Project Manager where required.
- Provide timely, accurate and appropriate reporting of progress against project plans to the PMO Manager / Project Managers.
- Provide assurance that change control, risk management and cost controlling procedures are being followed by the Project Managers.
- Participate in and facilitate the planning and preparation of project management events and workshops.
- Take the lead on projects to determine the future Project Planning Tools & Procedures within the UK PMO.
- In depth knowledge of project planning tools including P6 (current tool), MS Project (back-up option) and Google based planning tools (future).
- Knowledge of full project development lifecycle including formal gate reviews.
- Experience of managing Design disciplines to develop and maintain resourced project plans.
- Understanding of Work Breakdown Structures, Level of Effort, Cost & Schedule Variance, and Cost Management reporting.
- Experience of compiling and updating Gantt Charts, understanding Critical Path Analysis.
- Experience of Resource Allocation and Resource Capacity Planning.
- Experience of standard reporting metrics including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Appreciation of Risk Management in projects.
- Able to prioritise complex work within constrained timelines.
- Strong skills with Google suite of programmes.
Education, Qualifications or Training Essential
- Experience in delivering robust project planning as part of an engineering based PMO organisation.
- A recognised qualification in Project Management, such as AMPMP or PRINCE2 or equivalent experience.
- Excellent organisational skills and time management.
- Very good leadership and team building ability.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, and an excellent communicator at all levels
