Overview
We are seeking an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and rapidly growing building services consultancy in Birmingham. This role is ideal for an engineer with 2–5 years’ experience looking to develop their skills, gain exposure to diverse projects, and progress toward chartership.
As an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer, you will work across education, commercial, healthcare, and residential sectors, collaborating closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to deliver high-quality, integrated MEP solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of electrical building services, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security systems
- Produce calculations, technical drawings, and specifications using AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated MEP solutions
- Support site visits and surveys, preparing reports and providing technical input
- Ensure designs comply with BS 7671, CIBSE standards, and UK building regulations
- Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and project coordination activities
- Develop knowledge of sustainable design principles and low-carbon technologies
- Contribute to continuous improvement and internal best practices
- Degree or HND/HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services
- 2–5 years’ experience in electrical building services design, ideally within a consultancy environment
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux)
- Strong understanding of BS 7671, CIBSE guides, and UK building regulations
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Enthusiastic about professional development and working toward chartership
- Ability to manage workload effectively and meet project deadlines
