Salary: £15.17 per hour
Contract Type: Temporary (3 months) to start in February 2025
About the Role
We are proud to recruit on behalf of a prestigious client based in Edgbaston, Birmingham, for the position of Technical Assistant.
This critical role is essential for ensuring compliance with statutory and legal obligations related to mechanical systems and processes.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical and administrative expertise, ensuring accurate record-keeping, overseeing contractor performance, and supporting key compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer systems and processes to ensure legal compliance, managing electronic and physical records, condition reports, and databases.
- Maintain and monitor compliance systems, reporting exceptions to drive corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary contact for resolving issues with technical databases and systems.
- Validate and review service records and certificates to ensure accuracy.
- Manage daily mechanical contracts and compliance areas, ensuring inspections, repairs, and maintenance are conducted efficiently.
- Plan and supervise inspections, transferring data accurately into systems.
- Keep maintenance schedules up-to-date and ensure priority assessments are completed.
- Support procurement activities, ensuring financial and procurement guidelines are adhered to.
- Monitor contractor performance, reviewing KPIs and managing documentation such as Health & Safety reports.
- Coordinate emergency calls and liaise with contractors and stakeholders.
- Assist with minor works and mechanical projects.
- Ensure seamless statutory inspection support and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance processes.
- Experience in procuring and managing repair/maintenance contracts.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements for mechanical activities, including Health & Safety assessments.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, with a focus on accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; willingness to train in specialist software (e.g., Planon, Prime).
- Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and work independently.
- City & Guilds or HNC in a relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Gas Safe, HVAC, or Air Conditioning certifications.
- Experience with gas, air conditioning, or chilled systems.
- Previous experience in the Higher Education sector.
The role demands a proactive approach, working independently to prioritize tasks and collaborating with contractors to create and manage schedules. The successful candidate will also coordinate access, issue work permits, and handle emergency situations effectively.
