Job Title: Strong Room & Melt House Operative (Dual Role)

Location: Birmingham

Pay £13.46 up to £14.00

Job Purpose:
This is a dual-role position responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of all metal processed through the Strong Room, and for carrying out melting and casting operations within the Melt House to produce sheet, wire, tube, rod, or grain products to strict quality and production standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Strong Room Duties:
" Accurately book in all metal deliveries, checking alloy type, weight, and assigning to the correct location.
" Process scrap materials and assign to appropriate storage or production areas.
" Operate horizontal milling machines to machine cast bars.
" Drill bars for assay sample preparation.
" Perform XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and accurately record metal composition results.
" Respond to enquiries from Sales and collaborate with internal departments to resolve metal-related issues.
" Actively participate in 5S lean manufacturing tasks to maintain a clean and organised work environment.
Melt House Duties:
" Operate static and continuous casting equipment to produce required metal products (sheet, wire, rod, tube, or grain).
" Follow charging order procedures, including mixing, stirring, and using protective covers as necessary.
" Monitor and control melt temperature, composition, and casting parameters to ensure quality output.
" Identify and label all cast products with alloy type and bar number.
" Take, mark, and send assay samples for laboratory analysis to ensure conformance to quality standards.
" Meet or exceed production deadlines while maintaining high standards of product consistency and safety.

Required Skills & Experience:
" Proven experience in metal casting and foundry operations (static or continuous casting).
" Good understanding of alloys and precious/non-ferrous metals is highly desirable.
" Strong mathematical skills - ability to accurately calculate weights, ratios, and measurements.
" High attention to detail to ensure product integrity and compliance with specifications.
" Experience operating milling, drilling, or XRF analysis equipment is advantageous.
" Ability to interpret technical instructions and production documentation.
" Good communication and teamwork skills to liaise with Sales and other departments.
" Strong commitment to safety and adherence to SOPs and quality standards.

Additional Information:
" This role may require working in hot and physically demanding environments.
" PPE and full training will be provided.
" Flexible approach to shifts and tasks is required due to the dual nature of the role.
